Frequently asked questions
❓ Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about AQUASOL AGRO, the potassium polyacrylate hydrogel for Mediterranean crops.
What is potassium polyacrylate, and what is it used for?
Potassium polyacrylate is a superabsorbent hydrogel that can retain up to 400 times its weight in water and release it progressively to plant roots according to their needs. In Mediterranean agriculture, it reduces water stress, improves root development, optimizes water consumption, and increases plant resilience during periods of drought.
What is the difference between AQUASOL ECO and AQUASOL HYDRO?
AQUASOL ECO is the standard hydrogel for most Mediterranean crops. AQUASOL HYDRO is the premium version, with greater durability and a higher water-retention coefficient, intended for high-demand crops, very sandy soils, or severe stress conditions. Both retain up to 400 times their weight in water.
How much hydrogel do I need per hectare depending on the crop?
- Mature olive trees: 200 g/tree · 24 kg/ha (mechanized)
- Mature citrus trees: 150 g/tree · 30 kg/ha (mechanized)
- Mature almond trees: 180 g/tree · 27 kg/ha (mechanized)
- Mature cherry trees: 120 g/tree · 48 kg/ha (mechanized)
- Mature vineyards: 80 g/plant · 267 kg/ha (mechanized)
- Mature palm trees: 300 g/tree · 15 kg/ha (mechanized)
- Mechanized horticulture: 50–75 kg/ha
- Manual horticulture: 10 g/plant
- Nurseries: 1.2–2 kg/m³ of substrate
- Reforestation: 10 g (small) · 20 g (medium) · 50 g (young tree +120 cm)
For any young tree (0–2 years): 10 g. Developing trees: 70 g. Mature trees: 10 g × cm of trunk diameter.
Can it be used in saline or alkaline soils?
Yes. AQUASOL AGRO recommends tripling the dosage in saline or alkaline soils to compensate for the reduced efficiency. Thanks to this dosage adjustment, water efficiency remains similar to that of normal soil.
How much water can AQUASOL AGRO save?
Between 10% and 50%, depending on the crop, soil, climate, and irrigation. The best results are achieved in sandy soils in dry climates. Use our free calculator to estimate the exact savings in m³ and euros.
How long does hydrogel last in the soil?
It depends on the soil, climate, and agricultural practices. It maintains its properties for several seasons. AQUASOL HYDRO has a longer useful life than AQUASOL ECO thanks to its premium formulation.
Is it compatible with drip irrigation?
Yes, compatible with drip irrigation, sprinklers, manual irrigation, and other systems. Apply it in the root zone before irrigation to maximize absorption from the first cycle.
What is the price of AQUASOL AGRO?
AQUASOL HYDRO: €18.90/kg (1 kg) · €17.45/kg (2 kg) · €16.50/kg (5 kg) · €14.90/kg (25 kg)
How is it applied to fruit trees?
For young trees: mix it with soil in the planting hole. For mature trees: apply it locally beneath the drip line or in holes 20–30 cm deep. Always water after application to activate the product.
Does it work in all soil types?
Yes, although with varying efficiency. It performs best in sandy or rocky soils. In clay soils, the improvement is smaller, as they already have good natural water retention. In saline or alkaline soils: triple the dose.
Is it safe for the environment?
As potassium polyacrylate degrades, it releases potassium into the soil, an essential nutrient for plants. It contains no heavy metals or substances that are toxic to the soil or crops.
Can it be used in organic farming?
Consult your organic certifier. Potassium polyacrylate is not authorized under most European certified organic farming standards. There are no restrictions for conventional or integrated farming.
Does it improve fruit quality?
Under favorable conditions, it can improve fruit size by 5–15%, promote a higher sugar concentration, and improve coloration. Results vary depending on the crop, climate, and agronomic management.
When is the best time to apply it?
During planting or at the beginning of the growing season, before periods of greatest water stress. For established trees: before spring or at the beginning of summer. In horticulture: during soil preparation or transplanting.
Can it be applied with agricultural machinery?
Yes, compatible with precision seeders, localized fertilizer applicators, centrifugal spreaders, transplanters, microgranule applicators, and other standard equipment for granular fertilizers.
Is it compatible with fertilizers and plant protection products?
Compatible with most mineral fertilizers and standard treatments. Do not mix directly with high-salt-concentration products. Consult our technical team for specific cases.
What is the AQUASOL INDEX™?
AQUASOL AGRO’s exclusive indicator that assesses a farm’s water-saving potential based on the crop, soil, climate, and irrigation. Rated from A (excellent) to E (significant losses). Available free of charge in the online calculator.
Are international shipments available?
Yes, we distribute in Spain, France, Portugal, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Türkiye, Greece, Italy, and other Mediterranean countries. For international orders or large volumes, contact us via WhatsApp or email.
Can I request a quote for large areas?
Yes. For more than 10 ha or orders exceeding 100 kg, our team prepares a customized quote with special pricing, dosage calculations, and technical advice. Contact us via WhatsApp at +34 680 704 013.
Does it work in very dry climates such as southern Spain or North Africa?
It is precisely in dry climates that AQUASOL AGRO offers the greatest value. Trials in vineyards conducted in southern France, with temperatures of up to 40°C, showed visible differences after one month between treated and untreated plants.
How long does it take to activate after application?
It starts absorbing water as soon as it comes into contact with moisture. With normal watering, it reaches its maximum capacity within a few hours. That is why a first watering after application is always recommended.
Can it be used in nurseries and potted plant production?
Yes, it is highly suitable for forest and ornamental nurseries, pots, and containers. Mix it with the substrate at 1.2–2 kg/m³. It promotes more uniform germination and reduces watering frequency.
Does it reduce plant mortality in reforestation?
In trials with young plantations, it can reduce mortality by up to 20–50% compared with untreated plots, especially during the first few months. The best results are achieved in sandy soils with prolonged dry periods.
